Okay, so here we have the first in a batch of all new
twelve inch releases from the Echospace camp. Having listened to all previous
works by Stephen Hitchell aka Soultek, I gotta say this one came as a total
surprise. This isn’t the kind of ‘techy’ house sound we’ve heard prior, the
tracks here head in a totally new direction for this producer and we feel are
far more creative, taking us to where Hitchell is really coming from with his
sound – tracks that are moody, introspective, tentative, while encapsulating
the true funk and soul of Detroit techno that we all love. If there is more
material from Steve in the vein of this release, then we simply can’t wait
for the next twelve inch.

Oh yes - more limited business from the mighty Convextion -
this time a killer 4-tracker for Arne Weinberg's AW imprint. Head straight
for the immense "Laconic" on the A-Side, those unmistakable Convextion pads
and fuzzy synths making every effort to turn their surroundings into a deep
shade of blue - a neon flicker of engrossing, lush 4/4 that's once again in
perfect equilibrium for the sounds of Detroit and Berlin. Incredible stuff.
"Salmo" on the flip is even better - a squashed square bassline edging the
track into a more propulsive current, those twilight keys doing their thing
so well over that engulfing low-end. So so good to have this guy making
records once again - following on from the craziness surrounding the release
of his album late last year and the more recent "Miranda" doublepack you'll
all no doubt be aware that any record bearing the Convextion insignia just
doesn't last. And these are just gonna fly... Killer!

Here is another piece of the puzzle to solve the mysterious enigma of Gerard
Hanson’s mind. After his highly praised debut LP – Convextion- and his E.R.P
release on Frantic Flowers. -Romantic Interface- features 4 different facet’s
of styles: ranging Model 500 influenced futuristic techno to deep and dubby
Basic Channel-esque techno, and -Consumer Identity- has a strong reference to
Aphex Twin’s -Ambient Works-. Already playlisted and played by Laurent
Garnier: “Sweet monster!” Also watch out for the additional yellow vinyl
copies limited to 300 copies worldwide.

Deepchord's immense "grandbend" was originally released on
DC-10 and has been often cited as the most beautifully spacious of all of Rod
Modell's recordings. This doublepack on the echospace label brings together
a remastered version of the original plus reworkings from Echospace, cv313
and Deepchord themselves, plus some killer dubs that make for a bumper
package. Predictably enough the most satisfying remix is Deepchord's own
reinterpretation, making use of squashed African percussion in much the same
vein as Maurizio has on his recent remix work but imbuing it with a fuzzy
resonance that just kills us every time. These 6 versions make for another
intoxicating installment in the perfectly formed Echospace catalogue, and
with a pressing of a measly 1000 copies only for the world they're just not
going to last. Act fast to secure yourself a copy...

This is the first Echospace single since "The Coldest
Season" dropped on Modern Love and is a perfect continuation of Rod Modell
and Steve Hitchell's deeply engrossing dub variations. "Spatial Dimension"
sees a sublime configuration of airy, reflective chords and a heaving
bassline cushioned by all the space you could imagine. Reflective yet
propulsive - something that echospace have turned into their calling card.
The cv313 reduction on the flip is more rugged, the kickdrum feeding added
propulsion into the mix while keeping things suitably narcotic and out of
sorts. An absolutely killer twelve - limited to 1000 copies only for the
world.
